How to Play Blackjack
All blackjack players compete against the live dealer; the main aim is to beat the dealer’s hand by getting as close as possible to a total of 21 without crossing it. Once you go higher than 21, you bust and lose the game.
Card values
- Cards 2 to 10 – You get the numerical value on the card.
- Face cards [King, Queen, Jack] – Each gives 10 points.
- Aces – Players pick between 1 or 11 points as their hand value, whichever is going to help their hand better.
What Happens in a Blackjack Round?
Players must wager on the blackjack table, then the dealer goes ahead to deal each play and then themself two cards each. The player’s cards are both facing up while the dealer’s card has one facing up (upcard) and the other facing down(holecard).
Now, the player must start the round. To start, they can make the following moves: pick new card (hit), hold their cards (stand), place a double bet to get an extra card (double down), or they could also split their single hand into double hands if they possess a card with same value (split).
Once all players have played their hand, it becomes the dealer’s turn to play. To start things the dealer has to unveil their hold card then go ahead to play their hand. In some blackjack tables, the dealer may be allowed to stand on soft 17, which means if the dealer has an Ace and 6 face value card they must pick an extra card.
To determine the winner of this round, all hands need to be compared. A player hand closer to 21 is a clear winner, but if a player hand crosses 21 they lose. Also, if the dealer hand goes above 21 then all the players win. Then if a player hand ties with the dealer, their bets are returned and this is known as a push.
Summary:
- Player bets on table.
- Hands are dealt by dealer to player and dealer.
- Players go first.
- Dealer goes after players.
- Hands are compared.
- Winner gets decided.

Simple Strategies for Live Blackjack Play
Blackjack players can use these simple strategies to improve their gameplay while making their approach more structured in this game of luck.
Always Look at The Dealer’s Up Card
When you have a total hand value that falls between 12 and 16 (pair excluded), and the dealer’s upcard is a value between 2 and 6. It is best to stand. However, if your hand value is between 12-16 and the dealer’s upcard is 7-Ace then you hit.
This simple strategy tries to take advantage of the blackjack dealers’ higher losing chance based on the weak value of the upcard.
Card Counting
This involves watching high and low cards dealt to guess the possibility of cards that may still remain in the deck. An example of this will be assigning +1 to cards between 2 – 6 (low cards) and -1 to cards between 10 – Ace, then 0 to other cards.
A player must keep these counts while thinking about how to increase bets based on the cards counted. This strategy is more useful for experienced players and may not work in all live dealer games especially where cards are gets shuffled regularly to prevent card counting.
Managing your Bankroll
This strategy is all about how you can manage your money, increase your gaming sessions, and play responsibly. To begin, ensure you set a gambling budget first you start betting. Only use 2-5% of your entire bankroll on each bet.
For example, if you start with a budget of €1000, your bets will be between €20 and €50. This will keep you from losing your entire bankroll as you apply strategies when playing.
Specializing in Side Bets
Certain blackjack punters only play side bets like Perfect Pairs or 21+3. These games provide higher payouts when you land specific card combos.
For example, you can wager on Perfect Pairs, and if you get a matching card, you qualify for a payout of up to 25:1. Although these side bets come with high house edge, you can get ahead by understanding how they work.
